Our farm can be found in east central Illinois in the middle of a cornfield. At least that is what I tell everyone. We live in an area of very rich and fertile farmland where there is corn and soybeans growing everywhere you look. You will find our little part of Rocky heaven tucked in between all those corn and bean fields. And for me there is no better way to end the day than to be sitting on the back porch looking over our little herd of wonderful Rocky Mountain horses. Now that is what I call both rewarding and relaxing.

We are fortunate enough to have a very nice state park about 25 miles from us that has trails of all kinds on it. There are flat open trails where we can let our horses practice their smooth gaits, but there are some steep hills to climb or descend as well. So, it is there that we mostly ride and train our Rockies to be the best horse they can be. However, we do like to take them other places as well.

As I have said before, we love the calm, quiet nature of the Rocky breed, so our breeding criteria must include temperament as a priority, but that is not all. Along with that, we want confirmation, a smooth and easy going gait, and of course we like to include some beauty in there too whenever we can. We use only the best sires, what better way to improve genetics than to use the best. We have babies from some of the top stallions of the breed, such as Broken Bone Sam’son, Kentucky Blue, and Sonny’s Silver Dollar. It is easy to see that using quality stallions will pay off in the quality of offspring you get.

In keeping with our motto ‘Special horses for special people’ , we are somewhat particular where are horses go when finding a new home for them. We try very hard to insure they go to kind and loving homes, where they will be properly taken care of for a very long time. And when a new home is found for one of our ‘kids’ we are always happy to help in any way we can to insure both the horse and new owner are delighted with each other. That is the best way to form the wonderful bond that we so much enjoy with our horses.

We are not, and never will be large breeders. We don’t want to be. Our few horses get plenty of attention, plenty of love, and plenty of handling, and that is the way we want it. If we were large breeders, we would not be able to give our horses the attention we want to, and with all that attention and handling, that only makes for better horses for the new owners. So, if you want a horse in your life that has been loved on a lot, and is a very good companion, not just a ride down the trail, then we have the kind of horses you want. If you come to our farm and look around, visit with the horses, and don’t see something you want to take home with you, then at least we have gained new friends, and so have you. Isn’t that a good thing in itself?
